Death and Life-in-Death
A2 sized drawing inspired by a scene from Coleridge's
'Rime of the Ancient Mariner'
Gordon Napier, Jan 2009
A skeletal ship is crewed as the
sun sets, crewed only by death and a mysterious woman, who cast dice for
the Mariner's soul. The woman is described thus:
'Her lips were red, her looks were
free,
Her locks were yellow as gold:
Her skin was white as leprosy,
The Nightmare Life-in-Death was she,
Who thicks man's blood with cold...'
Admittedly there
is no actual mention of tentacles, but it doesn't say she doesn't
have tentacles either...
