She had been reluctant to start out across the
rope, fearing that she had not the strength to haul herself to the other
side, fearful of the fathomless drop below. She had also feared that more
horrors might confront them in the dark passages the other side...
But the knight had explained to her that there was no other option, that
it was a risk they had to take. To retrace their steps towards the gargers'
nest would be suicide. There was no chance of successfully climbing the
long way down the sheer chasm and back up the far side. The only other
option was staying on the ledge, and there didn't seem to be much profit
in that!
She has inched her way across, not daring to look down, but now she freezes,
as a bat's wing brushes her straining arm. The knight shouts at her not
to let go...
