A Knight Hospitaller. The Hospitallers (Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem) were counterparts of the Knights Templar, likewise involved in the wars of the Crusades. As well as their military duties, they placed a great premium on looking after needy and sick pilgrims. They managed to keep going after the loss of the Holy Land, establishing bases on Rhodes and then Malta.
