Somewhat inspired by the local woods which were just losing their autumnal colours at the time of painting.

Marian from Robin Hood lore. My fondness for medievalism and for 19th century painters like J. W. Waterhouse probably shows.

I wasn't sure whether to have the lady riding side-saddle, but side saddle is somewhat silly.

Mae West said that if the world were a logical place men would ride side saddle.
